I like to close up my aperture and shoot as long as I can (without using bulb) when I do long exposures. That can do some interesting things in the best of cases. If you’re looking closely at stars, it can smear them into little lines. If you’re shooting into direct light, it can blow out an image. If you’re shooting on a patio filled with people, it can make them all disappear.
